Magnetic Island!

Last Saturday I went to Magnetic Island with some friends. The main reason we went there was for the full moon party, which occurs every month on the night of the full moon. But, I also really wanted to see the island of course as well. Since I do not have classes on Friday, my friend Megan and I decided to head there early in the afternoon to explore for the day! It is around a 20 minute ferry ride to the island from the strand, so not too bad. It was gorgeous there and we got lucky with the weather, and had a beautiful day. We got there and took a bus over to a different side of the island and got lunch at this cute little place. Then laid out on the beach and napped for a while. We obviously did not want to bring much stuff with us since we would be there for the party later, and not bringing towels seemed like an alright idea at the time, butt after laying out in the sand, I do wish we had thought about that choice more haha. Then we went for a swim, dried off, and I really wanted to go on one of the hiking trails on the island. Sooo.. there was one in the book that said it was about a 45 minute hike, and took you through to two other bays around the island, then it said it had a trail leading back to the main road. BUT, what they failed to mention, was that the “leading back to the main road” part, was the never ending, up and down hill road of death. Got to the end finally, and it had a big road closed sign in front of it..lovely, then waited a hour for the bus ha. The party was not that great at all. They make it sound like the most amazing thing, some huge party on the beach on an island. What you do not know, is that all the drinks are incredibly expensive, and on top of the $20 you already paid for a ticket for this party, it is a rip off… I am so glad I went to the island early and got to spend the day there so I did not waste my ferry ticket!
It is a nice island and I think my mom and I will go there when she comes! (12 days!!!)

"Football Game"

Saturday night we all went to the footy game here in town. We are the Townsville Cowboys, and we were playing against the Newcastle Knights. It was $15 with student discount to get a seat ticket and to be honestttt I do not think it was worth it. I actually enjoyed watching it on TV a lot more then I did actually being here, at the game. It is so much more intense on TV. I love going to watch football games at home, but this was not that exciting. I felt more like I was at a soccer game.. So I know my daddy most likely would not enjoy it, and call them field fairies :) And he'd rip on the pink ref jerseys haha.

Here are some pictures from the game:

The mascot is A COW! :)

I think it is funny that the ref's wear pink haha

St. Patty's Day!

St. Patrick's Day is not as big here as it is back home that's for sure. But, it was still a pretty good time, all together with my friends :) We went downtown to a Irish bar and they had live music playing which was pretty fun, and when we first got there, a big group of guys all dressed up were playing bagpipes. Then after a while they came and played through the whole bar, I enjoyed that part. We made it a pretty early night though because we were planning to get up early and go to Magnetic Island the next day!

I tend to have the problem with setting my expectations really high for EVERYTHING I do here. Just the mere fact that whatever I am doing, I am doing it in Australia, so I expect it to blow my mind away, and be the best time of my life. Which is not the best attitude to have, because a lot of the things are going to be very similar to how they would be at home, I just am somewhere else.

I was glad that I happened to bring my green dress with me, it came in handy :)

Here are a few pictures from the night!
